UP to 1,000 Thomas Cook customers are thought to have been on the Costa del Sol when the travel giant went bust. According to the Association of Hotel Entrepreneurs of the Costa del Sol (Aehcos) 12 hotels in the region had deals with the company. The president of the group, Luis Callejón Suñé, said that the company had planned to sell between 5,000 and 10,000 tourist packages from May to December, of which the bulk were in the strong summer months.
He estimates that for this period of the year between 500 and 1,000 affected people will have been on the Costa del Sol on a Thomas Cook package.
These people’s flights will not have been affected, as Thomas Cook stopped flights to Malaga several years ago, and so they would have tickets on other airlines.
The president of Costa del Sol Tourism, Francisco Salado, contacted the British consul who has confirmed that the tour operator had scheduled from September to December 395,000 air seats in Spain with none of them to the Costa del Sol.
