Super yachts descend on Puerto Banus in Marbella

The popular port of Puerto Banus is used to receiving spectacular vessels and super cars but the opulence level hit overload with the arrival of a flotilla of super yachts.

The water palaces belonged to fashion magnate Roberto Cavalli and Mexican TV tycoon Ricardo Salinas, as well as Baroness Thyssen’s sailing yacht and the Saudi royal family’s luxury boat.

Roberto Cavalli’s 28 metre, $20 million super vessel, ‘Freedom’  is a picture of carbon fibre and aluminium and the interior drips with exotic animal print fabrics and exquisite furniture.

Freedom was dwarfed however when the $80 million 72 metre ‘Azteca’ moored up in the marina. ‘Azteca’ is owned by Mexican tycoon Roberso Salinas. Owner of Grupo Salinas and with an estimated worth of $7.4 billion he sits at 177 on Forbes rich list.

These two impressive boats shared the marina with the ‘Shaf London’. Owned by Saudi Minister of Defence Prince Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, the 53-metres-long yacht is a regular in Puerto Banus.

A boat of a slightly different feel, but just as eye catching was the 38 metre Mata Mua sailing yacht owned by Spanish philanthropist, socialite, and art dealer Carmen Cervera.

The aristocrat was joined in Marbella by her son, Borja and his family as they enjoyed the Marbella sights.
